News and Notes
- There are about ten days left in this grading period. Your child still has time to turn their grades around.
- In science we have been assigned two projects to do this quarter. The phases of the moon, is one assignment due on October 24, 2012. I know by now your child has shown you their calendar with the phases of the moon.
- The other project was in health and it was to keep a sleeping journal for one week. The children found out in class that they need at least ten hours of sleep for their age group. Each child wrote down when they went to be and when they got up for one week. At the end of the assignment the children could see if they were getting enough sleep. Some of the children did a wonderful job on this journal. As a reminder I wrote both assignments and due dates on the board so that your child could receive an easy A on both assignments. As a matter of fact they both are still on my board right now. The children were given extra time to hand in the sleep journal. They seemed to enjoy this activity. I feel this activity was so enjoyable because you as parents have set standards for bed time and the journal was easy to fill out.
- We have been talking about becoming safety patrols in our classes. In the spring about eight children will be selected from each class as a safety patrol. The patrol sponsors will be looking forward to picking children for this position by the following criteria: 1.Patrols must be good citizens. 2. Patrols must attend school regularly. 3. Patrols cannot be tardy a lot. 4. Patrols cannot be checked out early often. 4. All Patrols must maintain a C average or better. 5. Patrols must be recommended by their current teachers. We as their current teachers are looking at things like: homework being done nightly, a willingness to do their class work daily, staying focus during work time, going beyond the call of duty and helping other students or the teacher without being asked. We feel we have several students in our classes that would achieve this honor as being selected as a patrol. As fourth grade teachers, we would like for you as parents to know the selection process early so we can work towards this goal.
