Updates and announcements for this week

In order to show a gain on math F.C.A.T. your child must know their multiplication facts.  We have to do so many strategies in math that involve math facts being memorized: this week we will start simplifying fractions and putting them in the lowest terms. Some of the children have the multiplication facts memorized.  Your child is at a disadvantage if they don’t know these facts.  Please spend ten minutes a day on these facts.  Once these facts have been memorized your child can enjoy this investment for the rest of their lives.

All of the children should have read at least nine books by now.  The children that read for at least an hour a day usually score fives on the reading FCAT.  Please encourage your child to read.

November 25 and 26 is the date our first field trip. Mr. Prater’s class will go on the field trip on November 25 and Mrs. Scott’s class will go on the 26.  Permission slips have been sent out.  Five children in Mrs. Scott’s class have not paid for the field trip. All money was due by last Friday.  After today no money will be accepted.

We are going to Ft. Caroline for a couple of hours then lunch at CiCi’s Pizza.  The children will not be allowed to play games in the game room.  Parents are invited to take their children to the game room on their own personal family trips.

If you are going to be chaperone you must go through a background check by Duval county Public Schools.  Chaperones are not to bring younger sibling on field trips as this is defeating the purpose of being a chaperone.  Chaperones are needed to help the teacher maintain safety and order.  One chaperone is needed for every ten children.

Thank you for all that you do!
